FIRST GENERATION BREEDING CALVES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED
IN SHUAKHEVI RAYON
78 unit of first generation
breeding calves within the RDPMHA
frame received in the village Dgvani – Shuakhevi
rayon. In order to improve breeding activity of the
local livestock 6 Brown Caucasus pedigree breeding
bulls were introduced by the program in the village
Dgvani last year.

The
birth weight gain of I generation inter-bred calves
was within 22-35 kg, then when the local calves
birth weight was between 12-16 kg. The PMU provided
bull keepers with combine fodder. Local farmers were
trained on methods of care and right feeding,
sickness symptoms, periods and cases of veterinary
services.
As a result
of calves was born healthy and milking indicator has
been raised significantly.
About 80
improved calves will be received by the end of the
current year.
One of the bases for livestock
development in mountain is improvement of cattle
breeding. The mentioned activity especially is
important for Shuakhevi rayon. In the first place,
as Shuakhevi is boarder rayon and carrying out of
veterinary measures will promote to avoid episodic
diseases. Improved cattle, which are distinguished
by its increased weight and productivity, will
promote to increase local farmers’ income generation
and accordingly to stop the process of migration
from mountain – which is the main goal of the
program.
Livestock breeding activity – under
the coordination of the ministry of agriculture is
implementing by the RDPMHA in the program 4 pilot
rayons (Dusheti, Ambrolauri, Aspindza, Shuakhevi).
The program is financed by international fund for
agriculture development (IFAD).
